Anne Dahlhauser, The Bridge of Storm Lake’s co-founder and visionary stepped down from her role as CEO, effective March 1. Anne stated her desire to pass the baton to other capable leaders as well as pursuing opportunities for her to use her background in Spanish and English education.
Since 2009, Anne and Jay Dahlhauser have been key people in God’s plan to found and develop The Bridge of Storm Lake. Instead of going to Mexico, as they had originally planned, Anne and Jay chose to stay in Storm Lake. They moved to North Seneca Street to make a home, pouring their hearts into neighborhood kids. God gave them a vision that would transform the lives of the youth through connecting, supporting and empowering them in this community.
The beginning days at their home were filled with music on the porch, basketball games, applying band-aids, and teaching mothers the basics of reading and writing English. They formed a safe space for the children of their neighborhood to go when they needed help. In 2010 they hosted BVU students while working to develop an after-school program. As Christian missionaries under Christ for the City, Intl (CFCI), they started a base which became The Bridge of Storm Lake. This God-given vision became a reality then and still lives on today.
All that Anne has invested over the past 8 years, has been foundational for The Bridge. She has encompassed many roles and used her gifts in a variety of ways. Although this barely scratches the surface of how she has blessed this ministry, here’s a look into her contributions.
- Founder, Missionary, Writer
- Opening of her home, family and heart to many youth over the years
- Writer and Designer of “Front Porch” blog series
- Growth of the “Summer Sizzle” camp into a faith-based summer camp for Storm Lake girls
- Development of the structure, foundation and roles to form The Bridge of Storm Lake (501C3)
- Director of Communications – Sharing plans and happenings with donors and the community.
- Director of Vision – Sharing God’s plan and vision as it has been laid on her heart
- CEO – Leading the team
Anne would say that these past seven years have been joy-filled, passionate, challenging, and filled with growth. In this next season, Anne will be able to be more fully integrated into the community as a classroom teacher. She will continue her work towards a Master’s of Divinity through Fuller Theological Seminary. This is in addition to balancing a busy house with husband, Jay, and their 5 children. We are all excited to see how God will use her in this next season as well as how her work within the community will continue to build bridges.
She writes, “…I pray for God’s peace and the inspiration of His Spirit to cause us to anticipate the next chapter of serving Christ together here in Storm Lake. May He widen our vision of what it looks like to be the bridge here – much wider than a ministry that the Dalhausers started in 2010. I will always be thankful that God used me to help create something here, to put words and flesh on a vision that was His from the beginning…”
It is with much gratitude and appreciation, that we wish you well in this next season of life. Those of us who make up The Bridge know the sacrifice and passion that you have given to help form this ministry. Thank you for hearing the call and following His leading.
