Cultivate Training Garden

The Cultivate Training Garden Enterprise trains Storm Lake youth alongside mentors to grow and sell produce in order to build work ethic, learn about agriculture, and develop competency for future job opportunities.

In the Garden

The Cultivate Garden Training Enterprise (began in 2015) takes place on two 5-acres of plots land; one is located behind Seneca Center, and the other is north off Expansion Blvd.

Key sponsors of this project include: Buena Vista Community Foundation, Farm Credit, Ag Partners, Thrivent.

Junior Master Gardener Training

Through Cultivate, youth are engaged in planting seeds, raising seedlings, planting, weeding, maintaining, watering, harvesting, helping with CSA, and eventually hosting the Annual Harvest Days Celebration for the community. They learn from the Junior Master Gardener curriculum developed by Texas A&M and used by 4-H. The youth work alongside Bridge mentors and IA State Extension Master Gardeners, tracking their hours in order to earn points toward trips, rewards, and scholarships.
